Gum disease (periodontal disease) is linked to serious health problems like heart attacks and strokes. This disease refers to the infection in the gums that surrounds the teeth and if left untreated can cause tooth loss in adults and other individuals at some point in their lives. What play an important role in diagnosing gum disease early is regular dental check up. Signs and symptoms of gum disease can become obvious in the late stage and this can include: lasting and persistent bad breath, red and swollen gums, gums tries to separate from the teeth, tooth loss, bite changes, and changes in the denture fittings. Risk factors that involves gum disease such as: tobacco use, diabetes, medications, teeth that are crooked, pregnancy, poor oral hygiene, oral contraceptives, and defective filling. The best preventions against gum disease is having proper oral hygiene such as proper brushing, daily flossing, regular dental check ups and cleanings.
